Sawai Madhopur city

Sawai Madhopur, is a city and Municipal Corporation (Nagar Parisad) in Sawai Madhopur District, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is the administrative headquarters of the district.

It is home to the Ranthambore National Park and the historic Ranthambore Fort a UNESCO World Heritage Site , which lies within the national park.

Jogi mahal

The Jogi Mahal is situated in the forest area of Sawai Madhopur near Ranthambhore. This mahal was the hunting lodge of Maharaja of Jaipur but it was later turned into a hotel by the Rajasthan Government. This palace also provides clear view of the Padam Talab, known for its water lilies. Another attraction near this palace is a large banyan tree, which is said to be the 2nd largest one in India.

Khandar fort

Khandar Fort in an ancient fort situated in the Khandar Tehsil of Sawai Madhopur at 40 km from the city. This fort forms the boundary of the Ranthambhore National Park. It lies on a vertical hill and has three main entrances. The king of this fort was famous for never having lost a battle. The damaged walls and doors of this fort are associated with many ancient and historical incidents that took place in the place.

Ranthambhore fort

The Ranthambhore Fort was built in the 8th century by the Chauhans. This fort is said to be one of the oldest ones in Rajasthan. It is situated in an ecological desert, surrounded by Vindhyas and Aravalli Mountain Ranges. It has been ruled for a long time by Raja Hamir Deva who became the King in 1283 A.D. It also has been attacked several times by rulers like Qutub-ud-din, Allaudin Khilji, Feroz Tughlaq and Bahadur Shah.

Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary

The Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary is situated at 9 km from the city of Sawai Madhopur, at the confluence of Aravalli and Vindhyan Hill. The area of this sanctuary is rich in bio-diversity. It is home to many rare species of flora and fauna. Main vegetation carried on at this sanctuary includes trees of kadaya, amaltas, khaair, kadamb, goya khair, cheela, raunj, tendu, gurjan, siras, jamun, khirni, saintha, salar, and kathphadi.

Surwal lake

Surwal Lake is a popular sightseeing destination of Sawai Madhopur situated at 14 km from the city. This is a shallow seasonal lake that usually dries during the months of April and May. It lies amongst agricultural fields and is home to many species of migratory birds. The most popular ones include Flamingoes, Spoonbills, Sarus Cranes, Painted Storks and Greylag Geese. Due to this, the lake is also a popular bird-watchers site.

Sawai Madhopur, is a city and Municipal Corporation (Nagar Parisad) in Sawai Madhopur District, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is the administrative headquarters of the district.
It is home to the Ranthambore National Park and the historic Ranthambore Fort a UNESCO World Heritage Site , which lies within the national park.
This area was ruled by Raja Hammir Dev ( a Rajput king ) of Chauhan lienage along with his Bargujar relatives. The area was destroyed by Allaudin Khiljee.
Sawai Madhopur was built as a planned city by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I of Jaipur (1750–1768), who named the township after himself.
Sawai Madhopur is famous for its guavas, affectionately known as "Madhopur guavas" in Rajasthan. The Ranthambhor Park is one of the tiger reserves in the country and it is located around 11 km from the city itself. The park is home to many species of animals and some of them that can be seen in the area are tigers, nilgais, leopards, chitals, sloth bears and many other species. Safaris rides are also available in the park and they last for around three hours each. The fortress located inside the park was built in the 10th century, and is a majestic piece of architecture.

There are a few places that one can visit in and around the city and the most visited among them are Khandar Fort, Karauli, Trinetra Ganesh Temple, Sri Mahaveerji Temple, Siwad, Amareshwar Mahadeo, Chauth Mata Temple and a few other places.
